1.hello and welcome to jxj aviation in this video we will be looking at the bleed air system in an aircraft first let's see what is a bleed air system a bleed air system is a system which extracts air from an aircraft's engine or takes air from the auxiliary power unit or apu and distributes it to a few other systems in an aircraft the air is passed through different ducts a heat exchanger valves and regulators before it is distributed to other systems most of the aircraft with turbofan or turboprop engines have a bleed air system how does the bleed air system function if both the engines are running bleed air is taken from both engines and then distributed but if one of the engines is not running or not available then a cross bleed valve opens and is used to supply bleed air for all the users from a single engine the cross bleed valve also opens if the apu has to supply bleed air to different systems or users because of extracting bleed air from the engines the efficiency and the maximum thrust produced by the engine reduces which systems require bleed air in an aircraft bleed air is required in the pressurization system the air conditioning system the anti-ice system for hydraulic and water reservoir pressurization and for the engine starter motor the bleed air is taken from the compressor stages of the engine or the apu in flight during normal operations both the engines will supply bleed air and the apo is available as standby on ground the apu will be supplying bleed air when the engines are not running or not available the bleed air taken from the engines will be at a very high temperature so an air-to-air heat exchanger may be installed to reduce the temperature of the bleed air the air conditioning system takes in bleed air and cools it in different packs and distributes the cold air in the cockpit and in the cabin the pressurization system takes bleed air for pressurizing the aircraft when flying at high altitudes the hydraulic and water system use bleed air to pressurize the reservoirs and prevent pump cavitation how is the bleed air monitored the temperature and pressure of the bleed air extracted from the engines or the apu are measured if the parameters are not in the normal range then the bleed valves close and cut off the bleed supply to prevent damage to other systems or components what monitors the bleed air the parameters of the breeder are monitored by a bleed computer the computer has control of different valves and shuts them off during certain emergencies another important function of this computer is that it monitors any air leak in the system a leak may cause overheat damage other components and even result in a fire if a leak is detected this computer will cut off the bleed supply so that's all for my video on the bleed air system thank you for watching if you like the video do subscribe and you can continue watching some of my other videos as well
