1.[Music] origins in a shared history there are various models which attempt to explain the origins of the Austronesian people but the most widely favored model by science is the out of Taiwan model according to present-day Taiwan is the homeland of the Austronesian speaking peoples which include Filipinos Indonesians Malaysians Pacific and the people of Madagascar according to this model all Austronesian speaking people moved outward from the south eastern shores of continental Asia towards Taiwan around 3,000 BCE after which they then traveled on to Asia by the present-day Philippines reaching as far as Borneo and the Moluccas by 1500 BCE by this time they were forming new cultural groupings and unique languages they sailed towards the islands of Oceania Papua New Guinea varios Pacific Islands New Zealand and finally Madagascar of the east coast of Africa in addition to this this model also suggests that the descendants of present-day Filipinos Indonesians and Malaysians with exception of Negrito ethnic groups came from those austronesians who stayed behind on the islands when others continued to sell further east and west seafaring heritage to put it in another perspective while ancient Egypt was building the pyramids of giza around 2500 BCE the ancient Austronesian people started across the Pacific using maritime technology which they have invented the austronesians were the first humans to invent these ocean-going selling technologies that allowed them to engage in an epic journey and to settle in and trade on a large part of the region reaching as far as Hawaii Easter islands Madagascar and New Zealand although the austronesians are widely spread out geographically and use a wide variety of languages the austronesians share a common linguistic ancestry traditions aside from language Austronesian people also share to varying degree common cultural characteristics this include widespread technologies and traditions like tattooing stilt houses jade carving wetland agriculture and various rock art motives they also share a common set of domesticated plants and animals that were carried along with a migrations this include rice coconuts bananas chickens pigs dogs and a whole lot more but it doesn't end there Austronesian linkages also include carrying houses to move from one place to another rice terracing cultivation techniques the chewing of betel nut distinct pottery technology dental modification religion and architecture on the other hand they also share some social norms which are often frowned upon in today's modern society although austronesians share these commonalities in language culture and traditions a common united front in the form of statehood and compassing all archipelagos did not exist and would only come later in recent history this is tjuta variety of factors but mainly because of the vast island geography and with how Austronesian spread out and a versified into various pockets of unique societies with each community having a native culture which varies from region to region in the next episode we'll take a look at how this diversity was capitalized on by various colonizers we'll also take a look at the Hindu Muslim and Buddhist influences the present-day Philippines have had prior to the arrival of Spain in the Philippines meanwhile please don't forget to subscribe like comment and be a part of the conversation you
