1.that's slightly stereotype do you live in a flat here i do okay dicky boot trunk baggage okay i was completely confused does that me let us know in the comments if they don't edit this out hello can I distinguish people by their accents i think if they have a strong accent probably but otherwise maybe not cuz when we did the right that was pretty hard for me to tell plus I feel like people have a much better English accent these days when they speak in English but I think it's 50% of the world speaks British English and 50% of the world speaks American English that might help me a little bit oh yeah absolutely i mean I think we even use different words where I'm from if I could like each region definitely i don't know if that would help me as much but I think I could guess quite well well I guess it depends on person to person for me India is a big country so not only does the English accent differ from state to state it's also like what's their mother tongue that's also connected i feel like I feel like the North Indian accent and the South Indian English accent are slightly different but I'm not really good with accents i cannot differentiate anything so even within India I would be like confused but even if I do hear like very completely different accent I would still not be able to guess simply because I have met so many Indians who speak like pure British accent or like pure American accent and then you have like what people would call Indian accent like the stereotypical version so yeah I'm not good at guessing accent interesting like even in the place that you grew up yeah wow it's just people speak different it's also the way they learn so either like Indian like localized plus like they speak English through that accent and then like British and then American yeah and people do study it like very seriously and some people just learn from school like they have different tutors if you've come from an international school you might have had like international teachers and you kind of absorb their accent and if you come from like public then you just have Indian teachers teaching you in English so those Indian teachers have different accents and so you absorb different accents wow do you have many different accents like when you go home you speak like you do now or do you have like a slightly different accent when I speak to my parents in English so I always mix Tamil and English with them i have like an Indian accent i feel like they wouldn't understand if I speak like this but I don't know how to change my accents like it just happens if I see my parents I'm like "Okay I need to be slower i need to like enhance some words so they understand what I'm saying." Especially when I forget the word and But when I'm talking to my friends who I know are fluent in English I just speak as I am but if you like tell me oh can you switch between your accent now i'm like no it kind of has to happen naturally i definitely switch my accent a little tiny bit when I speak with my family back home so I think everybody does but yeah Indian accent honestly no offense but I think it's kind of funny maybe because of the movie industry a lot of comedies you know that's slightly stereotyped there are movies where they speak very fluent English but I'm not sure if those are like internationally famous a lot of scenes that is famous of Indian English is usually stereotypical versions actually there's this stereotype that I know that Indians they role are so far all the Indian friends I have met they just speak like perfect English because she does really great 5 years ago when I was working with Indian boss oh he's really hard because he the way he speech was really fast at the moment my listening skill was really bad it feels like how can I say like at the moment I was as I felt like he really fast spoke fast and sorry he was really fast so that's why I always just struggling with what he was say after one or two months I got to understand what he was trying to say because the point was from that art sound but your sound is really great but when I was young his sound art our sound is really uh strong for me so it was really hard for me to understand yeah actually I think a lot of foreigners can guess were from Philippines like earlier guys you already kind of guessed right away the thing is also like not a lot of like Filipinos are that fluent in English so it also depends if you're like um if you used English at home or if you're studying in international school but Philip also speaks English yeah we kind of like use Taglish in our language yeah I would say so interesting like what like food you call food yes we call I don't think we have like very huge differences i guess like things like apartment we would call it like flat okay like British English yes so I think a lot of that came from Britain like recently I feel like American English is kind of spreading but most words we use is usually like British okay so you would say flat i would say flats do you live in a flat here i do okay i thought you said no i live in an apartment like if you said you live in a flat I wouldn't be able to imagine i would just think that that just means any apartment we have apartments like now like some people call it apartments but like you can have like a 20 floor building maybe like younger generation sometimes we call it apartment but older generation will like yeah they live in a flat so if you say I live in an apartment do other people look down on you a little bit because you're trying to be too cool no they no I I think it's like because the culture is so entangled we just understand that not everyone is going to have the same vocabulary and they understand like usually when you say even the opposite words They do understand so it doesn't really affect people too much so you can use different words as long as the meaning like lines up okay that's cool yeah what do you live in do you live in a flat actually I've never known about just a flat that's why I as I'm asking her what they're talking about for me flat lord we use apartment more i think people in the world speak more American English than British English because the American culture stuff so we tend to use apartment you live in an apartment one of condominium yeah we we use you use condo yeah you know condo of course yeah we use we use condo in the United States but that's just to describe like a different type like you buy a condo and it's a kind of like an upgraded facility like it's a nicer place i think it's similar with office still here no I think condos are usually nicer than apartments it usually has like um shared facilities to like a swimming pool and you buy the place you don't really rent the place like it's like an actual house it's just that it's together yeah we get a butler they make food for you in the morning no yeah what do you think that means but the condo first like a very hugey and expensive accommodation i live in a condo but it sounds like more like original word i'm feeling like not that much just trendy thing condo means in the mountain there are huge condo is I don't think I've ever heard someone say condo it's in Korea is a different meaning condo means in Korea like hotel but big huge hotel so big accommodation so it's kind of very different with yours so we should just tell people we live in a condo in Korea yeah yeah that's why I again ask her what elevator elevator does everybody here say elevator or does somebody here say a different All right i say lift you say lift are you sure i I I honestly say both but the writings would say lift instead of elevator oh yeah i mean in the the written form is Yeah written form it is lift but for the spoken style was elevator you've seen lift written as well like I think so elevator and then some mark there is lift anyway just English word lift and that means like just weight so limitation weight yeah but we don't use elevator as a lift never just elevator it's usually lift in India i specifically use lift cuz I keep getting confused Because I think that is a loan word from dicki i don't know where it came from though is that cockney you guys in the comments tell us where where does dicki come from actually in in Korea we also use that word when we differentiate kind of underwear so for men there is a triangle pants and then how can I say the pant pant so we called it trunk panty trunk panties cuz they're as big as a trunk we just called it of course for my daddy's panty it was trunk panty so we always use that word even in commercial shopping TV media when I were young the show host also say trunk of panty wait so does anybody else call men's underwear panties i call it boxers boxers okay i think it comes from like the actual boxing cuz they wear like short pants then that's why we call it boxers i think we also like boxers are the short pants but the triangle thing is underwear underwear yeah yeah yeah and then what are panties i think we're kind of like similar like cuz in Philippines we use like brief or panty brief is for men and then panties for women torch does anyone know what a torch is yeah flashlight right it's like Indiana Jones had a torch oh I think recently we've been calling it torch but they do usually use flashlight also so the the light on the back of your phone that's a flashlight we call it flash torch torch flashlight flashlight yeah in Sri Lanka it's torch and I think it's mostly like localized as well it's almost like a Sri Lankan word actually in Korea we use that word toi when you go to this restaurant or grilled those food for example just sushi type of rice there is like a meat beef we're going to just grill this one we c it like a toi oh yeah and they grill with the fire so we ced that product as well just to in English that's I guess that's a torch as well oh really that flame could be a torch yeah yeah just grill food in American English flashlight is the one that produces light torch is always a flame oh really so there are many many many many different types of torches but flashlight specific so the one on the phone we use flashlight i don't think I've ever heard of my British friends saying the word flashlight i think I've only heard them say the word torch even if it's like for the flashlight we call it torch even on the phone it's torch i like that because it sounds cool you know like the the handheld flashlight no that's we call the torch phone usually I've heard people call it a flashlight interesting maybe because it's in their documentation like to turn the flashlight on they don't say like to turn the torch on my good name my good name is is Indian expression my first question is do you have a bad name my nickname is it true yeah i think is it is it nickname or surname my good intention is it like your proper full name or something like that like you instead of like a shortened version of your name you have like your middle and first name together or something it's like when you say something bad you say "Oh my name is Nal my good name is it's an introduction sentence how about this?" You make a sentence is it going to be too easy my good name is Janice then just good means nothing i think it's like a polite way to just be like "Oh this is what I prefer to be called." I don't usually use it so good actually means nothing here i think it's just there for like being polite large and they're large my better name is Oh my good so wait if you say my good name is this is like informal speech like when you just meet people you're like "Oh my good name is Janice." If you're talking to people in English I think for me it's so difficult to differentiate between formal and informal it's just so difficult for me to like I don't understand when I'm being formal and when I'm being formal i guess the only thing that makes English formal for me is like adding a s or a ma'am at the end for me it's cuz my mother tongue is tamil and we have like manga pong or like which is like and for me it's like it's not words usually it's what you attach to your sentences like how do you show them respect like oh you're older than me so I'm going to call you manga pong you're younger than me so I don't have to use that with you so when I go to English I'm like sir ma'am is my manga and like is like no sir ma'am okay do you have to like be conscious of that when you go home like you have to think about it or it's just automatic it's my most fluent language so I don't really have to think about Tamil but when I speak English I'm like you know after I came to Korea English is my like it's not even a problem anymore because Korea has so much chund like I'm always like I don't know what to use at which situation and win now I'm like sticking to I o like I just finish all sentences there same yes yoida just all of the endings yeah love failure i guess it's like a breakup sounds like a breakup I've been through a love failure like this i've never heard people use it in a sentence they just say "Oh like love failure or like love happened." Usually it's used with native language it's like commentary even like my friends if they go through a breakup or like the man they like like rejected them or something like that happens they just like come to me and be like "Oh love fail." Yeah something like that uh it's usually it's used to describe an activity that you use to like pass boredom oh yeah would a board game be considered time pass could be it depends on like like to kill time to kill time yeah also again I've never heard this in an English sentence maybe because I usually speak with in with my friends and they always say like time which basically means like oh we don't really have anything to pass our time out of my mind i think it may be it may be like MIA like in English it's like an expression if you don't answer your phone or something you're like kind of MIA yeah I like that one or like uh you are out of your usual area like I'm going out of I'm going out of my neighborhood so somebody asked you like where are you i'm like oh I'm out of station it's like I'm out of town kind of is it right yeah that's right if I have to like go to my native or like visit my grandparents I would be like "Oh I'm out of station." I guess I could think like a station could represent like a neighborhood in a way it's like out of town kind of similar to out of town does anybody else use that do you use that no we don't i was completely confused plus I you don't use out of station when you're out of your home typically like if I go to Busousan or something I'd be like "Oh I'm out of station cuz I'm like so far away."
