1.[Music] [Applause] hi and welcome to a new episode of easy english i'm rebecca and we're here today in kensington market in toronto toronto is one of the most multilingual cities in the world so we're going to ask people today if they can speak another language ready let's go the question today is do you speak another language yes i do and which language do you speak vietnamese i speak english it's portuguese spanish and ukrainian i speak russian and ukrainian um i speak bengali i speak english and i speak a little bit of hindi and a little bit of french as well do you speak at home yeah well like when we go back to visit family and stuff yeah the nieces and it's good to get them started to speak another language as well for sure yeah not much with friends though so what language do you speak together i would speak english i speak russian it's my first language i just speak english vietnamese [Music] [Applause] i learned english when i came here how did you learn it i took courses at home and then i went to vancouver for language courses and then i came here for university so you english before yeah i used to live in would you like to learn another uh yeah i'd like to learn japanese yes japanese and portuguese oh yeah japanese and polish too any plans together to go to japan yeah we want to teach english in japan actually everyone yeah i'm an english too if you had to learn another language would you for sure chinese maybe yeah you too um maybe it's like i feel like it's way harder to learn languages that are our age than when we were younger i don't know but it'd be fun to learn chinese though yeah i guess yeah suddenly hard language learning are you learning russian uh i'd like to learn uh ukrainian as well because my mother is also ukraine oh my god are you studying any other language at the moment german what are your reasons for um well my mom speaks portuguese and all her relatives so i think it would be pretty awesome to communicate with them because like we can't really have a why polish i'm half polish so my mom and a lot of people in my family are in poland so i want to learn their language too so i can communicate with them because my step-dad and my mom speak german i can understand a little bit but i can't really speak okay do you code switch with your family uh code switch code switch between english swedish vietlish sometimes i'll think in english sometimes i'll think in bengali then just switches interesting and i'm speaking sometimes it switches even with our parents as well we kind of mix english in there yeah so like code yeah what helps you to learn a language well i guess like the absolute plunge into the foreign culture like when you go somewhere and when you feel that there is no one speaking english i guess this is the best case scenario to learn another language what's the best way to learn a language go to the street and talk to honestly the best thing is just to like speak it every day of course in like in the environment that's the best you can do practice i guess because this is the most thing not only like to read books but actually to talk to people and there are lots of like free speaking clubs and we met actually the spanish speaking club or fall in love right so we hope you enjoyed today's episode we found people who speak vietnamese russian polish ukrainian spanish and many more languages and they also had some good language learning tips for you we look forward to making more for you soon see you next time [Music] you
