1.[Music] hello hi Laura we've sort of coordinated again have we well I'm kind of in like a turtl necky  gray thing and you're in like a gray thing every time we do this Laura we don't we we don't we  don't communicate about what we're going to wear it's just this got this telekinesis that's not  the right word got this this psycho link I think between our brains well we're married so there you  go that's what did it it's the Rings it's the power of the Rings what are we talking about  today by money Laura money money do your Mr Krabs impression hello this is not good this is not good  hello I like money me like money money moneyone that's a good one that's a good one talking about  money A lot of people are a bit shy to talk about not shy there's a bit of a what's the word it's a  bit of a social stigma that you don't discuss money have you found that yeah it's a bit of a  some C cultures find it quite rude to discuss money some yeah I don't know which cultures  some do in some people would think like oh you don't discuss but I have seen more people online  saying that especially in work you should discuss your salary with your co-workers some people are  saying you should do that because like let's say if you're doing the exact same job with someone  and you say oh I'm on this then that other person might say why am I not on that and they might go  to their boss and like talk about it and talk about promotions and stuff so a lot of people  are talking about salary transparency how you should be open about it but other people people  are like never discuss it yeah I don't know it's a bit of a weird social one do you think M People  care less about money as they get older yes do you think yeah I think so why do you think that um  because more things things become more important so it's no I in my there's no it's not  it's not a coincidence that the people who let's say traditionally care most about money haven't  got kids yet or haven't got grandchildren yet or having got other stresses in their life they're  probably like healthy and things like that so like yeah the only thing that they think well  what is the hole that I could fill be richer yeah and that's the thing you're building I suppose at  the beginning of your life you're Building Wealth but then when you get to 6 you probably built your  wealth and then it's things like oh some of my friends are getting ill and stuff I want to make  sure got my or just and seeing the world or something so it less important yeah do  you think money can buy happiness I really think not I think it's a complex question  I think money can buy the means to have a life that allows you to be happy do you know what I  mean because I think when people say like oh money can't buy happiness I think it's a little bit in  not insensitive but I always think about people who have no money and they're like living on the  street or like they're doing all this and they hear rich people saying money can't buy happiness  I feel like if I was that person I'd say it would make me happier like you know you know what I  mean like someone living on the street they can't afford to feed themselves that you know struggling  and people say money can't buy happiness I'd be thinking I think I'd be happier with £2,000 I  think I would be happier because I'd be able to buy myself a flat I'd be able to buy this  so I think it's a complex question when people just say it can't buy happiness I think that's  quite a privileged thing to say sorry sorry I set a trap for think I just you think of a privileged  thing to say I'll give the counterargument the count I I no I completely I I do agree with what  you're saying um but I also think that good a lot of good things in life are free true so like you  could for example spend a lot of money on going to Las Vegas with your friends for example you could  spend a lot of money doing that but the thing that was the best was when you were in the hotel  room and you were reminiscing about University or something now like that could be the highlight of  your holiday not all of the money that you spent in Las Vegas and doing lots of nice things for  example um so I do think that it I think it's a case- by case thing but then yeah yeah it's it  is complicated yeah because the other side of it you're completely right it's don't don't aim for  money as your only source of happiness because it won't get you there and loads of people they  did like a survey of of lottery winners and they said that loads of lottery winners are miserable  like it doesn't like and it's I believe it was Jim Cary who said Jim Cary once said I  think everyone should become rich and famous once in their life to realize that it doesn't solve any  problems yeah yeah because I think like a lot of people just think oh if only I had more money if I  was rich if I was famous then everything would be better and then he said it doesn't solve anything  like it it it really doesn't and I think for some people it amplifies it I think for some  people money amplifies their problems so if they are already sad and miserable and you give them  a bunch of money it's probably just going to make them sad and miserable but in a bigger house yeah  you're not going to be not be like if you're lonely already yeah and then you get rich you  might think I'm going to have a lots of friends now but then maybe you just feel lonier because  your house is bigger so you just feel more yeah like solitary and the um I do I do also think that money I I keep hearing it in Mr ks's voice money money money no it's a it is a stigma  it is a stigma it's like a bit of a there's a bit of a Stig like a bit of a taboo topic isn't it to  to to talk about which is why this is difficult Laura to be honest it is but it's but it's the  world we live in do you think you're good with money do you think your spending habits and the  way you are with money is sensible yes I think you apart from the fact that we don't have a pension  that's probably not very sensible I think I think our daytoday life like present day spending is  good I think we could get better at future future investment and things like that we're not great at  that but in the moment we're pretty good like we don't we do not splurge on stuff we're not like  let's what do you think we spend the most money on us short food food and like leur Le Leisure things  like going to going to an event or going to a a theater show or like a day out or something like  that yeah yeah but we do not I tell you what we don't spend most of our money on material  uh like what like jewelry clothes no fancy gadgets fancy cars like we some some  people put a lot of their money on material possession which is fine spend your money how  you want I'd love for Apple to just stop making iPhones because I'm happy with my iPhone yeah and  I I have a choice whether or not to buy a new iPhone but the the more the older my phone  gets yeah the worse the technology will be on that and it will slow down I'm I'm really happy with my  phone I don't I don't I'm not striving for a better phone a bigger phone I'm not striving  for a a better car or a bigger car or whatever we really not car people we never every time we think  about our future we never think about having a fancy car do just a car that moves and works it's  fine but yeah but some people spend a lot of their money and another thing we don't spend our money  in is holidays a lot of people go on a holiday every year we don't just because that's not how  we're choos and spend our money at the minute we will minute we might on hym so I think we are good  at spending but we're not good at um investing investing or like thinking of it's complicated  it is hard and also like we're trying to build our live and you know like try to do nice things while  we're young and then if someone says to me oh every time you get paid put 20% of that away for  tax and 20% of that away for a pension oh my God what I'm left with like 60% left of what I've got  and I've got to spend like you know 10% of that on food another 15% on bills tax oh all right but  then maybe maybe we're very naive maybe this is just what life is it's horrible maybe I know and  it's even it's so rubbish being self-employed because if you get it's actually great being  self-employed but in terms of the money thing so when you're in a job in this country I don't know  how it works in other countries but in this country they got P ye pay as you earn so if I  was a school teacher and worked in a school they here's the money that comes in to pay me you're  me right and they go here's the money that you've earned we've got this little bit for your tax but  don't worry about it don't worry about it there's your money I've never even seen you've not even  seen it not even seen it what happens with us is we get money in and we go ah look at this do you  want to go on a holiday do you want to do this and then at the end of the year the tax man goes can  you give me thousands of pounds please because you owe me and you go oh yeah and you probably  should have saved that as side yeah and we're not very good at say which hopefully will be better  in we're going to get better but it's horrible just to like send that money off and go there you  go whereas in other jobs you don't see the tax it just gets what would you like to spend your  money on cloth clothes yeah I always want new clothes but that's not I'm not asking much I'm  not saying I want to buy designer clothes I want to buy like jeans that are £0 or like t-shirts  that are £20 I'm not asking I don't want to spend thousands of pounds on clothes I just want like  quality clothes that I like I don't feel like I like a lot of my clothes at the minute which is  mental because you buy I think you do you don't buy a lot of clothes but I think I just get bored  quite easily you know how often I I change my hair I think I just get bored of my look very quickly  and I want to change it and if I did that with my clothes all the time i' would have no money yeah  we got to solve that do you think your attitude towards money is different to older generation  so like your grandparents attitude to money and your parents attitude to money slightly I think  my mom my mom and dad and my grandparents are very very frugal very frugal yeah um so I'm I want to  say I'm better than them but I don't want to say better because Frugal less just less Frugal um  but that doesn't I don't but I but I still never I'm I'm not in debt I don't I don't I don't spend  what I don't have yeah ever um yeah so I think I think I am different like my um my grandmother  I don't think she ever spent money on anything no grandparents are very well CU I suppose they grew  up in like wartime where that you couldn't be SP you didn't have the money to spend on stuff like  there wasn't stuff to buy because of ration and everything so grandparents are a lot more frugal  but grandparents are also the ones that give you 20 quid would your grandparent give you money not  20 gr oh my own was she go like she like put a little thing well no but well I saw my n like  every day should be yeah that's true you'd be absolutely minted that way no I think my attitude  is a complete perfect balance of my mom and my dad no not not your mom and your dad yeah not a  perfect balance of everyone in the world of my mom and my dad so my dad is very much a spender and  my mom is is pretty she's pretty really good with money so in I'm in the middle and I feel like I I  like to treat myself but I don't go crazy you don't deprive yourself of anything no and and  I think we are a lovely balance for each other as well because I think if if you didn't have me you  wouldn't spend anything on yourself you'd never like buy yourself anything nice or like treat  yourself not very often at all and if I didn't have you I'd have no money but I still don't feel  like I do spend the money on myself very often was the last thing I bought like a big thing yeah PS5  yeah that was like two and a half years ago yeah I mean I haven't spent that much money on myself in  a long time either you just bought some shampoo I buy little things though you're more likely to buy  something expensive and rare and I'm more likely to buy some cheap but often I yeah so it balances  out like you like you'll buy like makeup or hair products or things like that it is more expensive  to be a girl absolutely cuz look at the two of us like you've got no hair you wear no makeup  and then I've got long hair and I have to wear makeup wasn't there some research into like that  product like um pink tax yeah pink tax so it's more like even though the products are exactly  the same they just make the colors a little bit girlier and they put up the price yeah it's called  the pink tax yeah they did it with like razors so there's razors and they're exactly the same razor  but one of them's pink and the other one's blue and the pink one was more expensive expensive to  be a girl but you don't have to buy the pink one La no that's true but Society pushes me towards  the pink one yeah which I can't fight Society yeah which is mad it's mad it's and like Society  also tells me because there were studies into um apparently women who don't wear makeup would be  viewed as less professional in the workplace so they did study which is it's our face it's mental  so they they well you've had it on here sometimes when like remember that remember the video you did  about makeup yeah and then like like um there were some people saying like please wear makeup Laura  please wear makeup no well it's true like I'm like they there was a kind what it was but yeah  it was a study and they said that if a woman came in for a job interview with no makeup on and they  a lot of like people who working and they said they'd be more likely to make a judgment  on that woman of saying oh she's not prepared she's not she's clearly not prepared well for  this interview she can't even put herself together she has got makeup on yeah so I feel like I have  to wear makeup not because I just want to it's like Society will view me in a different way if I  don't like on YouTu YouTube videos if I don't wear makeup people might view me in a different way and  go well she's not a very professional teacher which is wild I think I think I think so I have  to spend money I think we would we wouldn't have as many subscribers if Lloyd didn't wear makeup  probably because they definitely they might make a they click on the video and go I don't trust her  because she doesn't look very well put together because she hasn't done done a makeup which is  so crazy ridiculous how we're born what's it about learning English what's it about teaching English  nothing to do that so that is my big excuse for why I'm allowed to spend more money because it is  more expensive beig no no no I'm I'm and you you can you can spend your money we still PR  we're a good balance for each other because we we're sensible and yeah when I was at University  would I have liked to have bought new clothes every week to go out yeah but I didn't because  I was being sensible and now I don't have debt like I know people who are in debt because they  just spent so much money at University yeah and now they're still paying off that debt so kind of  like I'm happy that I remained strong and didn't spend all my money on clothes because now I'm okay  and I'm not in debt from that um but there's a lot of pressure to there's a lot of pressure to  spend money especially with like social media and everything you look at people's lives and you go  oh that person's just been on a holiday oh that person's got a new thing and we're in um what's  the word overc consumption we're in an era of over consumption where people just want to have so much  of everything and they want I want to buy that or oh I saw this on Tik Tok I saw this but I need  this this whereas like like you don't need all that stuff like people feel like they need stuff  and they need to buy like stuff and get new which which is interesting though because aren't many  many people now like minimalists yeah well there's there's there's well you can be minimalist style  like your Decor looks minimalist it doesn't mean you are a minimalist you could still have loads of  stuff right um so yeah it doesn't help especially with things like Tik Tok shop now I can literally  be scrolling Tik Tok and I see a woman go I did it the other day bought some on Tik Tok the other  day did you yes did you buy it was £10 for did you buy face masks because they sold them really  well on Tik Tok and I'm scrolling and they were like buy these and I can just literally click a  button I go there you go there you go done and that's why people have so much stuff now whereas  if you do but you you're part of the problem then in that case cuz you saw it and you bought it yeah  they got me they don't get me often I've only ever bought two things off Tik Tok the bag and the bag  and that so I'm pretty my favorite bag of the well I got from T shop so I'm pretty good with it I'm  able to have a balanced view on do I need that or is that just silly it's it's mental like how  different we are yeah so I really want some light bulbs that are like smart light bulbs so you that  we have some of them in the house you can kind of change the colors of them these are not color  changing ones these are just a part of the app that you connect to um and the light M are 2020  and I've wanted these for over two months you can just get them well hang on over two months now  I've wanted to buy these and I've thought oh next time next time I get some money I might buy them  or whatever you got some shampoo today was that shampoo more expensive than the lights how much  are the lights 20 yeah that answers the question doesn't it so how much do you think my shampoo was  oh I don't want to know 3030 I'm trying to fix my hair 30 I'm not going to buy that often like like  like like I I really want sometimes I'll really want like a video game or something and I won't  it will take me I'm not exaggerating years to go yeah I'm going to buy that and that video game is  maybe £25 and you just like I said it's expensive to me yeah but I think you are more frivolous than  me I actually don't think I am because I never buy things that have I ever come down to you and  gone I've just been 400 on something that's never happened I will only ever spend little amounts so  I actually don't think I'm that bad I don't think £35 is little or 30 is little no it's not little  but this is something that I have been thinking about for a long time cuz my hair has been not  correct for a very long time and I'm trying to like my hair goes GRE this is not money related  my hair goes greasy after one wash and that's really annoying me so I'm trying to stop my hair  going greasy after one wash which in time would save me on shampoo cuz I won't be washing it as  often but would you have to continue using that shampoo no it is a detoxing shampoo okay oh fair  enough fair enough so hope that's what I'm aiming for but if I if I was saying to you like you know  every month I've just spend £300 on clothes that's frivolous that's crazy yeah yeah yeah I do think  that I because I don't spend money a lot when I when I have to or when I want to I I'm I'm happy  to do so yeah like a little bit more now so so you bought a really nice map that's probably the most  most expensive thing you bought recently yeah but that was still and You' wanted it for ages that  was still December yeah so you'd said for ages that you wanted to get an old map and then you  found the perfect map in an antique shop and that was 170 but you've been talking about it for ages  and you hadn't spent money on yourself in so long so it was kind of like a a big treat and we are so  fortunate that we can buy a map for £1 170 we're not doing it every day mind do you know what I  mean the last thing for myself like trust me we're not we're not millionaires like we're we're we're  doing okay but we we're we're surviving I'm in debt to be Mom that's that's being honest  we had to borrow lots of money off me mom cuz we got married and bought a house in the same year  yeah and I was like I we can't do this it was so expensive CU like buying a house you have to pay  fees so when the solicitor buys the house does all the house stuff for you they go  4,000 and our solicitor was not good 4,000 is a is so it's a lot well I think we been done a little  bit by by the solicitors because your brother said that they paid it did take a while to go  through your brother your brother was saying like oh gosh our took and he found how much it cost  and he said ours cost like £500 and we thought we paid four grand anyway so we've got that and  they we had to pay for the wedding so we uh we're still paying my mom back for that aren't we yeah  so um but it's just about making just living within your means I absolutely I think we do  live within our means which is good I think so we don't we don't try to live outside of our Meats I  think that's the key isn't it if I if I spend if I if I put myself in debt to buy something  there is no way that the thing that I buy would bring me would would be worth the anxiety of me  being in debt it wouldn't at all yeah that's true that's true but we are but we're fortunate that  we can take that kind of loan from our and know that we can over time be able to pay it back so  um money is one of those topics isn't it where it's like it's it's so like what's the word um  yeah and um I just wish we could live in a world where no one's struggling to put food  on the table but that's me being my idealist AB um yeah and like we yeah and you can you can if  you have money it's about being generous I think I think the the people that stress me out are the  ones that have it all and don't give or don't like like like if you're earning loads and you  don't give a bit of that back to charity it feels a little bit like oh come on like you can you can  give a little like I'm not saying give away all your riches I'm not being like Ebony's a screw or  whatever just just if you're earning thousands and thousands can you do $5 a month to a charity or  something yeah um it's it's about sharing it isn't it and and being generous with it but normally the  richest people are the tightest yeah yeah like the the the what was it now I saw a video or something  and there was like a person and she had she only had like $10 her name literally $10 and she saw  someone who was in need and she gave her the $10 like that whereas then you know really really rich  people are less likely to do it weird weird world we live in isn't it it's very strange it's very  strange do do you think that rich people are happy I think if they are it's the other things in their  life that's making them happy not the money I think it's the the security maybe maybe money buys  you security and that's what lets you be happy because you can just chill and go I can focus  on stuff that makes me happy whereas if you don't have the money focusing all this Stu people yeah  they call it like Financial Freedom yeah yeah yeah Financial Security and stuff so very interesting  very interesting topic we can we can unclench our fists now relax yeah we're not talking  about money anymore we like to talk about the topics here on chatting English we  do give me a handshake Laura it's been a pleasure pleasure is all mine how much do I owe you byebye [Music]
