Example:
"What is that? Well in my cleverness to get to Mike's name twice as fast, what if I go ever so slightly too"

B1Used to replace a word that might be considered unacceptable in a particular situation, when using a well-known phrase.
Example:
"So this is kind of like the proverbial fork in the road, if Smith is among the names, let's do this. What do we want to do?"
